This role offers an excellent opportunity for experienced underground mining professionals to play a critical part in ore production by conducting precise longhole drilling activities. Successful candidates will work with advanced drilling equipment and contribute directly to operational efficiency, safety, and production targets within one of Africa’s leading mining operations.
Responsibilities
Operate longhole drilling equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with OEM specifications. Achieve or exceed daily production drilling targets while maintaining high safety standards. Monitor ground conditions and adjust drilling techniques to optimize penetration rates and prevent equipment damage. Identify and manage drilling challenges such as drifter, shank, rotation, and hole-related issues. Remove bogged rods and perform back hammer procedures according to OEM recommendations. Consult supervisors and planning engineers when drilling issues cannot be resolved and implement alternative drilling solutions. Plug or grout abandoned drill holes according to operational requirements. Remove cuttings and sludge to maintain clean drill holes and prevent blockages. Accurately complete drilling and production documentation, including drilled meters, re-drills, delays, hazards, consumables usage, and ground conditions. Conduct routine operator maintenance and daily equipment inspections. Protect drilling equipment by operating within recommended RPM limits and best-practice standards. Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity targets of 125–200 meters per shift. Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in all work areas. Support team activities and contribute to a positive safety culture underground. Qualifications: Completion of Secondary School Education. Advanced Level
