The Hydrogeological Technician plays a critical role in monitoring groundwater conditions, supporting mine dewatering programs, conducting hydrogeological investigations, and ensuring water-related risks are effectively managed to support safe and efficient mining operations. The position works closely with hydrogeologists, geotechnical engineers, environmental specialists, mine planners, and operational teams to collect, analyze, and interpret groundwater data. The role also contributes to groundwater compliance, environmental stewardship, and sustainable water resource management while ensuring mining activities remain safe and productive.
Responsibilities
Conduct groundwater investigations in underground and open-pit mining operations Supervise hydrogeological drilling activities and groundwater monitoring programs Assist with aquifer testing and groundwater characterization studies Install, monitor, and maintain piezometers and groundwater monitoring equipment Develop and update hydrogeological models to support mine planning and dewatering strategies Support water balance calculations and forecasting activities Monitor groundwater inflows and water pressure conditions within mining areas Collect, analyze, and interpret pore pressure and groundwater level data Monitor and evaluate groundwater quality parameters Support the development and implementation of mine dewatering programs Collaborate with geotechnical, environmental, and mine planning teams on water management initiatives Identify and assess groundwater-related risks such as water breakthroughs, fill saturation, and slope instability Maintain and update the Groundwater Management Plan (GWMP) Ensure compliance with site standards and regulatory groundwater
