We partner with mining clients across Africa to achieve operational success with sustainable environmental management and acceptable social outcomes. We are looking for a Mine Closure Consultant to join our team supporting projects in Tanzania and across the eastern Africa region. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of mining projects, contributing to the development of practical, responsible and regulatory-compliant mine closure solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing mine closure planning strategies, conducting closure liability assessments, and supporting the delivery of closure/decommissioning and rehabilitation projects. The role combines strong technical mine closure expertise with project management responsibilities, working alongside multidisciplinary team of specialists and engaging closely with clients, and regulatory Authorities. Develop mine closure strategies, plans, policies and procedures. Develop future land-use plans for post-mining environments. Provide technical guidance to clients on mine closure planning and implementation. Review mine closure strategies and closure cost estimates and prepare technical reports. Develop and manage closure-related project plans to guide decommissioning and rehabilitation activities. Monitor and evaluate closure and rehabilitation plans throughout the mine life cycle. Manage project administration to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to quality standards. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal teams. Conduct fieldwork at mining operations and project sites, including remote locations when required. Prepare technical inputs into the decommission plan as a requirement into the Environmental Impact Assessment Process, guided by the relevant environmental regulatory and policy requirement and complemented by the relevant sector for the project. i.e., mining, petroleum, infrastructural sectors. Participate in the development, engagements, and subsequent approvals of a Mine Closure Plan as guided by the relevant mining legislated guidelines with direct coordination/liaise with the National Mine Closure Committee (NMCC). Participate in the engagement with the NEMC on aspects pertaining to Environmental Protection Bond for Non-mining projects. Requirements Experience in mine closure liability estimates. Knowledge of sustainable and practical physical rehabilitation techniques. Understanding of land-use planning principles. GIS experience (ArcGIS, QGIS, Model Builder/Model Maker or similar). Strong technical report writing skills. Experience developing mine closure planning strategies and closure plans. Ability to read and interpret engineering designs and associated plans. Understanding of mine closure legislation, international guidelines and industry standards and experience in developing Conceptual or Detailed Mine Closure Plans for mining operations. Experience with mine closure audits and monitoring. Experience in developing decommissioning plans for non-mining sectors. Experience with the relevant legislated process in developing a Mine Closure Plan and relevant engagements with the National Mines Closure Committee (NMCC) Skills Strong numerical and analytical ability. Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team. High level of accountability and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong client-focused approach. Excellent organisation and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Willingness to travel project sites within Tanzania and internationally. Ability to work in remote and challenging field conditions. Ability to build and maintain professional relationships. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline. Experience with GIS and spatial analysis tools would be advantageous. Professional registration or membership with a recognised professional body (e.g., Engineers Registration Board, NEMC, or equivalent international accreditation) would be advantageous. Valid driver’s licence and passport. Experience 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role. Experience in consulting environment. Experience managing or supporting mine closure-related projects. Experience working on African or international mining projects would be beneficial. Eligibility to Work Applicants must have the legal right to work in Tanzania.
