Responsibilities: Operate longhole drilling equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with OEM specifications. Achieve or exceed daily production drilling targets while maintaining high safety standards. Monitor ground conditions and adjust drilling techniques to optimize penetration rates and prevent equipment damage. Identify and manage drilling challenges such as drifter, shank, rotation, and hole-related issues. Remove bogged rods and perform back hammer procedures according to OEM recommendations. Consult supervisors and planning engineers when drilling issues cannot be resolved and implement alternative drilling solutions. Plug or grout abandoned drill holes according to operational requirements. Remove cuttings and sludge to maintain clean drill holes and prevent blockages. Accurately complete drilling and production documentation, including drilled meters, re-drills, delays, hazards, consumables usage, and ground conditions. Conduct routine operator maintenance and daily equipment inspections. Protect drilling equipment by operating within recommended RPM limits and best-practice standards. Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity targets of 125–200 meters per shift. Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in all work areas. Support team activities and contribute to a positive safety culture underground. Qualifications: Completion of Secondary School Education. Advanced Level Education is an added advantage. Diploma in Mining Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is advantageous. Valid Driving License is an added advantage. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of underground mining experience. Experience starting in mine development or as an Underground Operator before progressing to solo drill rig operation. Proven experience operating Longhole Drill rigs in underground mining environments. Experience operating Sandvik DL421 or DL420 series drilling equipment. Demonstrated ability to achieve production targets while maintaining safety and equipment reliability. Knowledge and Skills: Ability to read and interpret daily production shift plans. Strong understanding of underground mining processes, terminology, and production activities. Ability to read geological markings and identify variations in rock hardness. Knowledge of hole deviation management and drilling accuracy techniques. Ability to assess ground conditions and safely scale loose rock. Thorough understanding of underground safety procedures and standards. First Aid knowledge and emergency response awareness. Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
