Full Time Production Geologist Job at Barrick Tanzania Posted 1 month ago by Barrick Tarime Job Description This role is responsible for supporting underground and open-pit mining operations by providing accurate geological information, grade control, ore reconciliation, and production reporting. The Production Geologist ensures that geological data is collected, analyzed, and interpreted effectively to support mine planning, resource optimization, and achievement of production targets while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards. The position works closely with mining, resource geology, and technical services teams to ensure accurate ore extraction, efficient ore flow management, and continuous improvement of geological models. It also plays an important role in supervising geological technicians, supporting training initiatives, and contributing to the overall success of mining operations through effective geological management. Responsibilities Review weekly and monthly production plans against actual performance Provide development meters, production tonnes, and grade forecasts for mine schedules Ensure exposed headings are mapped and updated daily without disrupting production activities Update lithological, structural, alteration, and mineralization models using geological software Maintain and update 3D geological models in Vulcan, Leapfrog, or related platforms Ensure level plans are updated with geological and structural information Review and adjust stope shapes and development cuts before drilling and blasting activities Prepare stope notes and closure reports in a timely manner Ensure Mining Instructions are completed accurately and include all geological inputs Support resource geology teams with block model updates and depletion information Supervise and coordinate ore flow from underground operations to processing stockpiles Conduct truck factor tests to ensure accurate tonnage and density reporting Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual production and compliance reports Participate in training and development programs for geological staff Assist in supervising Geological Technicians and Assistant Geological Technicians Support employee development plans and performance management processes Maintain effective communication and handover procedures between shifts and leave periods Ensure proper storage and maintenance of geological, safety, and operational records Collaborate with other mine departments to achieve operational objectives Promote adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or a related field Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine geology and/or exploration geology Experience using Vulcan, Leapfrog, Micromine, or other geological mining software Strong knowledge of geological modelling, grade control, and ore reconciliation Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word Understanding of database management systems and geological data handling Valid Tanzanian driving license with Class B, C, D, and E categories Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles General Requirements Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Strong leadership and people management skills Experience training and mentoring technical personnel High level of organization and attention to detail Commitment to Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental best practices Strong work ethic and goal-oriented mindset Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet deadlines Professional integrity, accountability, and commitment to continuous improvement Conclusion The Production Geologist position provides an excellent opportunity for geology professionals to build a long-term career in mine production, resource management, and technical mining services.
